BetaZi a founding member of Caltech/NSF Center in Geomechanics and Mitigation of Geohazards

BetaZi is proud to be a founding member of the newly-formed NSF Industry–University Cooperative Research Center at Caltech: the Center in Geomechanics and Mitigation of Geohazards (GMG), and to participate in next week's planning workshop on the Caltech campus in Pasadena. Project proposal presentations for initial research areas will focus on optimization of fracking, induced seismicity, ground failure and infrastructure, subsurface fluid pumping, and hazard and event assessment. BetaZi will provide modeling for the center as well as data from its partners and input on AI use in this space.

BetaZi CEO Janette Conradson will be attending the inaugural event, along with leaders from Big Oil and Insurance companies and California utilities, to work with Caltech scientists in setting the direction of the group's research. The GMG is directed by Drs. Domniki Asimaki and Jean-Philippe Avouac, Professors of Mechanical and Civil Engineering; and Dr. Nadia Lapusta, Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Geophysics, Division of Engineering and Applied Science and Division of Geophysics and Planetary Science.

The Oct. 31-Nov. 1 workshop will be the first meeting of the GMG since receiving NSF funding this year, and will be moderated by an NSF Evaluator. BetaZi was invited to be involved in the industry-university initiative early on. Company founder and Chief Innovation Officer Dr. Heidi Kuzma is an alumna of the California Insitute of Technology and serves on its Geological and Planetary Sciences Chairman's Committee.
