CalTech Discussion with Industry of proposed Center for the Mitigation of GeoHazards

BetaZi LLC and P2 Energy Solutions are pleased to be sponsoring an event on the 24th in Houston that will bring together industry leaders with Caltech scientists to discuss the development of the proposed National Science Foundation-sponsored Center for GeoHazard Mitigation at Caltech.

Professors Jean-Philippe Avouac and Nadia Lapusta from the Caltech Divisions of Geology and Planetary Sciences and of Engineering and Applied Sciences have recently been working on scientific questions related to oil and gas and would like to explore avenues which would encourage more collaboration with industry. For example, research results they have achieved indicate that it may be possible to come up with a set of best practices that will minimize the risk of induced seismicity as a result of fluid injection.

Hosted by P2 and chaired by BetaZi CTO and Caltech alumna Dr. Heidi Anderson Kuzma, Drs. Avouac and Lapusta will talk about their work in fluid flow, fracture mechanics and seismic monitoring. After a survey of this and other work of potential interest to oil and gas, the audience will be asked to participate in discussion regarding the proposed center in order to help Caltech define its most promising path towards a research partnership with industry.

The event is by invitation only.
