CTBTO is the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization, tasked with monitoring the globe for nuclear explosions and distinguishing them from naturally-occurring seismic phenomena. In 2009 CTBTO began looking at ways to use then-new AI technology to automate this process. Listen to Dr. Heidi Kuzma give a short slide history of this successful, first-of-its-kind project for a recent conference retrospective. Consider too that this is the background experience of the scientists who developed the BetaZi algorithm a few years later, in 2012, and have been refining it ever since.
